Celebrating a Shared Heritage: Bringing Communities Closer Together
A Journey Through the Heart of Lebanon

The Lebanon Mountain Trail is a living bridge between the rugged peaks of the north and the rolling hills of the south, stretching 450 kilometers across a landscape rich with history.

Every year, the LMTA invites hikers to step into the soul of the country through two signature events: the Spring Thru-Hike, an epic month-long journey as the highlands bloom and snow melts, and the Fall Trek, a shorter, immersive expedition through the golden hues of autumn.

These aren’t just trekking trips; they are deep dives into the Mediterranean’s rural heritage. Participants traverse ancient cedar forests and hidden valleys, finding refuge each night in remote village guesthouses. For many, it is a first introduction to a storied land; for others, it is a way to reclaim memories of home. By sharing traditional “gastronomic” meals and walking through resilient mountain communities, hikers help preserve the very culture they are exploring.

Four Seasons, One Trail: The LMT Races

For those who prefer a faster pace, we partner with the 4 Seasons Mountain Trails to offer adrenaline-fueled races that showcase the LMT’s diversity year-round.
From the snow-capped winter ridges of Aaqoura to the blooming ultra-marathon tracks of the Shouf Biosphere, these events transform the LMT into a world-class arena for trail running.
Whether you are chasing a personal best on the ITRA-certified courses or simply looking to connect with the landscape in its rawest form, running the LMT offers a unique perspective on Lebanon’s resilient beauty.

Pedal Through the Peaks: Mountain Biking the LMT

The Lebanon Mountain Trail is not only a sanctuary for hikers but also a formidable arena for mountain bikers. Its potential was famously cemented by explorer Maxime Chaya, who completed the entire 470km trail on two wheels in a record-breaking 6 days.
While the LMT presents a “technical” challenge—with approximately 70% of the route being rideable—it offers a fast-paced journey through Lebanon’s diverse microclimates and ancient heritage. From the rugged limestone paths of the north to the sun-drenched dirt tracks of the south, biking the LMT is a “human-powered” adventure that combines athletic grit with the warmth of rural hospitality.

While the LMT is primarily a hiking trail, it is increasingly becoming a destination for mountain biking (MTB) enthusiasts. About 70% of the trail is considered bike-friendly, though the terrain is diverse and can range from smooth dirt roads to highly technical “goat paths”.

Accessibility and Inclusion (Nature Access for all)

Capacity building and trail equipment for the physically challenged
Pioneering Trail Access for All in Lebanon

Since 2022, the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association has stood as the pioneer of inclusive hiking, becoming the first in Lebanon to provide people with disabilities full access to the rugged beauty of our trails. Through a landmark initiative funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and managed by UNDP, we introduced Joëlette all-terrain wheelchairs from France, effectively breaking the barriers between the wild and those with mobility challenges.

By continuously training specialized guides and organizing immersive outings—particularly for children with disabilities—within Lebanon’s Nature Reserves, we ensure that the entire trail experience is a right, not a privilege. Even without external funding, our commitment remains unshakable: we prioritize nature access for all as a vital pillar of social inclusion, ensuring no one is left behind at the trailhead.

Expanding Horizons: Trail Access for All

Since 2022, the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association has pioneered a new era of inclusivity, becoming the first to provide people with disabilities full access to Lebanon’s wild landscapes.

Building on the success of the Joëlette all-terrain wheelchairs, we have expanded our reach to empower the visually impaired through specialized navigation tools.

By introducing directional bars from Spain and training specialized guides to lead sensory-rich hikes, we have even successfully completed trail runs with blind participants.

From the tactile discovery of wild herbs to the thrill of independent movement on rugged terrain, our program ensures that nature’s wonders are experienced through every sense.

We remain dedicated to breaking physical barriers, proving that with the right expertise and community spirit, the trails belong to everyone
